Getting a new computer (what to get)

So my current computer is in its dying days and needs to be replaced. I want to make sure that whatever computer I get will work well in conjunction with Reaper. I believe I remember reading that certain sound-cards don't do so well with ASIO drivers (I use ASIO4All if that makes any difference). What would those be so I can avoid them? Are there any other additional features I should be looking for specifically for Reaper? (besides of course more cores and higher clock-rates) Thanks!

Assuming PC rather than mac, do you want a desktop or a laptop? Are you planning on buying a "proper" audio/MIDI interface or sticking with asio4all and the internal sound capability? What sort of music do you "do"? Lots of virtual instruments and plugins or all audio? What is your budget and where are you located?

Wait... you have an i5 machine and can't run a single VSTi live?! (Your worst case example) That's not right. Even for Windows that can't be right. You mentioned not recording audio. You understand that when you freeze tracks you are creating audio files that then have to be played back from your hard drive right (just like tracks you record with mics)? What kind of hard drive do you have in your current machine? How many tracks are your projects usually? You should post a LOT more details about your computer, system, and projects (beyond those 2 quick questions). You may be simply a hard drive upgrade or system tweak away from having plenty of power already.

Ok. I am not getting a new computer to get more power. My computer has multiple issues including issues charging, and it will cost so much to fix that it makes more sense to get a new one (the issues with charging are getting worse). Probably going to get something similar to what I have. One VSTi live does not cause glitching. The issue is that I often feed one VSTi output through MANY filters, sometimes including ReaPitch, occasionally more than once (I swear I have a good reason to do that). I have had as many as 20 filters total on one track before. Yes I understand that tracks get recorded to the hard drive when I freeze them. I just meant that I don't work a whole lot with non-VSTi sounds; not recording vocals or anything really. It's not that I need more power; I can live with what I have. It's that I need a new computer, and I'm just trying to figure out the cost of upgrading/staying the same... Thanks so much; I can be really bad at explaining things sometimes haha
