V70 - Ignition key wont turn beyond position 1 ???

Car stuck in drive! The ignition key won't turn beyond postion '1'. Don't wan't to force it and ben the key! Any suggestions? Thanks.

I take it this is an automatic car. If so remove the plastic cover round the steering lock, locate the cable coming from the gearlever. Undo the screw that locates the bowden cable in the steering lock and remove it.
