No, from the Digi docs: Mbox firmware version 20 is required when using Mbox on Windows XP. After you have installed Pro Tools LE 5.3.3 and have restarted your computer run the "MboxFirmwareUpdater.exe" program located in the Digidesign\Pro Tools\Pro Tools Utilities folder on your computer to check your firmware or update your Mbox firmware to version 20 if needed. See page 11 (page 15 in the PDF) of the Getting Started with Mbox Windows guide for more information. Did you read the manual on page 11 yet? Rail

Maybe you are overloading soemthing somewhere. Stuff like feeding a line-signal into mic-pre's. Then you could lower the gain so you dont hit the red. But the signal will still sound horribly distorted. So tell us a bit more what you are recording and how you wired it all up.

first of all I'm running mbox pro tools 5.3.3 on a hewert packert laptop 1113mhz,512ram,40gig hardrive.First question is,is this a compatable setup? I'm getting lots of static and pops while recording, almost sounds like I'm pushing my levels to hot but i'm not. Also i am getting latency issues, but i came across a temperary solution to that. While recording your track mute the track at the same time, that way the signal is not coming back to the mbox. The only prblem is you have to live with recording your track dry then add effects later. At least the delay will be gone.As far as the static and pops i've tried several things. Imade sure my dma is enabled, tried diiferent playback engine settings, did the firmware update, moved the mbox away from the screen, tried unplugging and replugging the mbox.I've always tried to stay away from computer recording because of the nightmares and horror stories.Even at my friends studio who has the full blown mix plus plus system, we had to stop sessions several times because the computer would jam up and he is using a G4.As of right now my little setup is useless to me. This is more hassel than reading a Roland VS 1880 manual.(ha ha ha!)Sometimes I will get lucky and the fist track will come out ok.But soon as I create the 2nd track ,here comes the noise or shortly after.I should be recording not doing research.Maybe I should get one of the new Yamaha recorders!I would really like to get this working,if anybody has any ideas or answers please let me know.

Make sure you have the latest firmware in the M-box. I think it is described how to upgrade in the getting started guide.

Did you update your firmware as indicated in the Getting Started manual on page 11? Rail
